As was discussed at the Annual General Meeting, we plan to move away from the public Facebook group (Tidnish Crossroads & Area Community Association) that we have today and create a private Facebook group.
Over the past couple of years, members of our community have been the victim of scams and frauds involving the public group. These scams typically involve attempts to sell things the scammer doesn't have like Wild Game Dinner tickets or someone doing impersonation to obtain personal information from a vulnerable person.
In a public Facebook group, anyone can join the group and post messages. In a private group we can ask people to answer a few questions and to agree to a set of rules that would govern behaviour in the group. This gives the volunteers managing the group better ability to deal with badly behaved users.
First off, there won't be any changes until we give the community an opportunity to: contribute; comment; agree; object, etc.
You can provide your comments and feedback using the form at the bottom of this page. At the end of July, we'll consolidate all of the feedback and publish it here and on the public Facebook group for everyone to review.
After that and assuming that the community is still in favour of this change, we would publish a timeline including a period during which people who have joined the public group would join the private group.
Finally, once everyone had the opportunity to move to the private group, we could archive the existing Tidnish Crossroads & Area Community Association public group.
People who want to join the private group would be asked to agree to abide by the group's standards when then they submit their request.
Here is a starter set of group rules and standards (for discussion)
Be kind and courteous - Let's treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness and civility are required.
No hate speech or bullying - Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things like race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.
No promotions or spam - Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren't allowed.
Business promotion - business ads and promotions are limited to twice per week.
If you have suggestions or comments on the standards, please use the feedback section below.
People asking to join the closed group would have to answer a couple of questions. Here are some suggestions.
The group standards outline how we will be administering this group. Have you read the group standards and agree to abide by them? (Yes / No)
The association's area covers from MacLallan's Brook on Highway 366 (1323 Tyndal Road) to the Northport Bridge and from the intersection of Beecham Road and Highway 6 to the intersection of Highway 970 (Tidnish Road) and Main Street in Baie Verte, NB.
We are asking the following question to understand how many of the group's participants live in the area. You won't be denied access because you answered No to this question.
Do you reside in the Tidnish Crossroads Community Association area? (Yes / No)
Have you visited the association's web site at https://mytidnish.ca ?
Tell us a bit about your connection to the Tidnish Crossroads Community Association or surrounding area. For example:

I have a summer property in the area.
I have family ties to the area.
